The Russian manufacturers of methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) increased the volumes of shipments abroad in the 1st quarter compared to the same period of the previous year
by 35.4 thous. t, to 101.4 thous. t, according to the railway shipping agents’ data. It was associated with the weakening of demand for the component in the domestic market.
The increase in the volume of shipments was promoted by the enlargement of the geography of supplies. While in the 1st quarter of 2016 MTBE was shipped to the ports of Finland and of the Baltic states, to Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzia and Mongolia, since the beginning of this year the component has also been shipped to the Russian ports on the Black Sea.
The number of exporters has increased to five: apart from Sibur Holding, Ektos Volga, and Omskiy Kauchuk, the product was shipped abroad by Gazprom Neft’s refinery in Omsk and by Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant.
